What I've Learned so far with Digital Art

My Most successful Digital Art Piece

During my senior year, I decided to take an AP art class. Throughout the school year, you work independently on your portfolio to submit to the dashboard for grading. I was mainly focused on traditional art, but I struggled with getting the colors right, and my pieces felt very dull. Halfway through the semester, I decided to teach myself digital art.

While teaching myself, I learned to use layers properly and experimented with the settings in IbisPaint X. During the creation of my artwork, I struggled to create a smooth blend of colors. I tried using the smudge tool provided, but it often ruined my colors or their placement. What worked much better for me was the blur tool. By stacking colors on top of each other and blending them with the blur tool, I was able to create smooth transitions, as shown in the video.
So, I start by applying the main color on the first layer. Then, I add the shading and highlights on the second layer. Once that’s finished, I go to the toolbar, select the blur tool, and blend everything together. Afterward, I go around erasing any leftover smudged colors. If you guys use IbisPaint this might help you with blending.
